Highlights of the Postgraduate Course include:
*Video of specific techniques will be included in the presentations
*Allied Health Professionals Session: Anorectal Manometry and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy (Concurrent Session Friday morning)
Highlights of the Scientific Meeting include:
*ANMS Dodds/Sarna Lecture
*Distinguished lectures from giants in the field of neurogastroenterology & motility
*State-of-the-art lectures on hot topics in neurogastroenterology & motility
*Oral and Poster scientific presentations on cutting-edge research
A limited number of Travel Awards (Apply by May 15, 2019 to be considered) are available for registrants that qualify. Eligibility is noted on the registration form. (A new window will open for the Travel Award application on the Registration Form).
Travel Award for Clinical Course Eligibility: trainees, graduate students, post-docs or junior faculty up to 3 years after last degree or completion of training (e.g. Graduation from GI fellowship)- made the time frame a little longer (from 2 to 3 yrs post training).
Travel Award for Scientific Meeting Eligibility: trainees, graduate students and post-docs who submit an abstract to the meeting.
Course Overview: This course will benefit both novice and expert clinicians and clinical investigators through its emphasis on the diagnostic approach and management of gastrointestinal (GI) dysmotility and functional GI disorders. Although the focus of this meeting will be on emerging technologies, the presentations will be valuable to all participants as the pathophysiology of these disease states will be reviewed in parallel to the description of these new approaches. Presentations will include, but will not be limited to, discussions on all parts of the gastrointestinal tract and will focus on emerging technologies in colonic and anorectal motility disorders, esophageal motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, nausea and vomiting, gastroparesis, identification and management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), brain-gut microbiome axis, diet and food sensitivities. Additionally, a special section tackling the effect of the opioid epidemic on the GI tract and the role of legalized marijuana on neurogastroenterology and motility diseases will be incorporated as this is becoming an important issue in our field.
Scientific Program Overview: Will address many cutting-edge research areas which range from basic aspects of neurogastroenterology, translational and clinical aspects of gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders. Topics will include the mechanisms of visceral pain, genetic and epigenetic approaches, role of the gut microbiota, food sensitivities and intolerances, patient reported outcomes and biomedical informatics. Disease areas that will be discussed include including esophageal disorders, functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and fecal incontinence. In addition, participants will learn more about current and novel therapeutic approaches for these conditions including the role of acid-suppressants, prokinetics, probiotics, dietary interventions, visceral analgesics, secretagogues, guanylate cyclase C agonists, and other novel and emerging therapies as well as devices.
We hope you will consider attending the meeting and look forward to seeing you in Chicago and sharing in this exciting meeting.
